I remember growing up and feeling the "whatever you do, it affects everyone who is black". Whether it was good or bad, it was always for "someone else". Boy talk about that crazy pressure and somewhat unrealistic. As unrealistic as it is to base your whole existence upon what you "will do for a group of people", it stunts your belief factor from what you can do and should do for yourself.
This thought and concept was ingrained in my head and I still find myself detoxing my thoughts from such a hyphenated way of living....and praying that I don't teach my children the remnants of that thought.
While it is not inherently bad but it does not give way to one being their authentic self and living out their rights and responsibilities as a free will agent...able to make up their minds freely.
Think about though can anyone really be the "face" for anyone. Have we bought into the notion that all of who we are "hinges" upon one or two people? If so doesn't this limit the unique power of transformation that is rendered to those who dare to believe that God can change your life, and make it useful for Him, or the desire that if you seek after real change in your life you will get it? Outside of anyone else?
I don't know but the constant realization of living "good" to be able to "show" others how to do it is overrated and truly the cause of many peoples frustration, depression and sometimes anti-social behavior and personality. We are free will agents, and the moment that we seek after truth for self, be willing to honor God in all things then and only then can we come into a place of honoring others.
Become the Millionaire or Billionaire you want to be because you desire it, not so that you can be the "token" to show someone that you were able to do. Do it because YOU want it. Create that innovative way to sale your products because you want to do that not because you will be saving a group of people...do it for YOU. Get and become better fit, because, you want it, and not because you are on health death row. We are waiting for markers, cues and external motivation to move us, when the desire to be BETTER and live out that life is all the motivation we will ever need.
Everything I AM... I want to BE. How about you?
